Via Francigena Siena Ultramarathon
700 pilgrims walk the Via Francigena Siena Ultramarathon! This 120 km non-stop walk from Siena to Acquapendente is an annual event. The super fit began the ultramarathon at 10 am Saturday 21st October and just keep walking all the way to Acquapendente!
Some walkers chose the easier option skipping the overnight walk. This meant starting at Radicofani at 9 am Sunday morning and walking 32 km to Acquapendente. Other pilgrims began at San Quirico d’Orcia at 10 pm and walked 65 km to Acquapendente. Here are some very excited pilgrims just finishing their 65 km walk!
This ultramarathon is a personal challenge that takes the pilgrim through many parts of Tuscany renowned for their natural beauty. In addition, this part of Tuscany is steeped in historical and cultural significance. So stay tuned for next year’s date, to walk along Sigeric’s ancient pathway with fellow pilgrims.
